One warm, sunny day in June of 2011, it suddenly occurred to me that I really needed a recipe box. My cookbook is big and stuffed with pages of recipes from the internet. I use the internet recipes more than the ones in the actual book! As previously stated in the About The Smiley Kitchen page, I wanted a cool, vintage, kind of hippie-dippie recipe box to go with my smiley décor. My first stop was eBay and was delighted to find the recipe box seen here:
Many people sell recipe boxes with the recipes still in them and this groovy box was no exception. When it arrived, I went through the recipes announcing the more interesting ones to my boyfriend. After much laughter, we came to the conclusion that the former owner was an older woman… perhaps from the southern states. I shared the contents of the recipe box with my mother and she took many of the dried fruit and fish recipes (yuck!) for herself. As I experiment with the remainder of recipes, you will find the details and full review of each in The Recipe Box section of this blog. My boyfriend and I have named her Mildred… just because.
